It’s been a busy 2019 so far at Outlive Yourself Foundation!
As we announced late last year, we are now a part of Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA) as a way to expand how we honor and support the gift of life. For anyone unfamiliar with STA, it is a non-profit organization that serves as a connector between those who make the decision to donate their organs and tissues and those who need a lifesaving transplant. For more than 40 years, STA has been saving and enhancing lives by recovering donated organs and tissues for transplant in one-third of the great state of Texas. To date, STA has recovered more than 23,000 organs and saved or enhanced the lives of more than 100,000 people.
Outlive Yourself Foundation and STA are united on three key objectives:
- Supporting the donation of organ and tissues while educating the public on the importance and need of donation
- Assisting the needs of donor families and transplant recipients
- Driving research and education that will lead to more successful organ transplants
The key to reaching these objectives is the building of a new, state-of-the-art facility in Dallas. This 77,000 square-foot building, the first of its kind in Texas. The building will help improve efficiencies and safety. And most importantly, it will improve the outcome of organ transplants!
The space will include organ donor management services, organ donor recovery rooms, a lab for pre-donation testing, as well as training rooms. The building will also feature a donor memorial garden, water feature, and 100-year-old oak tree and will have a room where organ donor families can meet organ transplant recipients.
Keep in touch for updates on the building’s progress and Outlive Yourself events. We’re excited to embark on this next phase of our organization!
